I’ve been trying new things and didn’t feel they were individual post-worthy. This is a good way of saying that I’ve been doing random things, started new projects and just living life. I hope to wrap up at least 1 project soon….
I’m going to give a brief summary of what I’ve been up to these past few months. Then maybe dive deeper into some of those topics in future posts!🤞
Turbo Dork
I’ve been messing around with these paints since May and I finally got a chance to use them fully. I don’t want to spoil anything but I’ll have a dedicated post for this soon. I bought 3 new colors while at NOVA Open and immediately put them to use!
Dungeon Bowl 😬
Have you ever had a project where it is a low priority so it keeps getting put on the back burner. Say hello to these 3D printed Dungeon Bowl tiles! I started working on these in early 2024. Needless to say, it’s been a LONG time. I tried pushing to have these done for NOVA Open 2024, it didn’t happen. Tried again for NOVA Open 2025, also didn’t happen. I did put some serious work into them though! Maybe they’ll be ready by NOVA Open 2026?

Imperial Nobility
GW’s Nobility team has been sitting built and unpainted since first purchased in 2020. I think I’m going to try and play them at a very large tournament in June. I generally don’t believe in practice games. My plan was to get them painted and get a few tournaments in before June.
This project was started in Mid August with the thought being that I could have them ready for NOVA Open and submitted to GW’s Army Showcase or Capital Palette. Long story short, I learned the following:
- I can’t paint on a time crunch. I messed up 11 minis trying to rush and ended up stripping them and restarting. The only survivor was the test mini.
- I’m not a competition painter, it’s not my jam. I don’t want to subject myself to being judged and critiqued. I’d rather try new things and get it on the table ASAP. Listening to some friends talk about their craft, how much time they put into it, the feedback they received. I realized that it just isn’t for me.
This is a strong candidate for its own article. I originally was going to do a display board to match the team but I don’t think that’ll be happening anymore. We’ll see…
As of now, I need to paint eyes on 16 models, prime and dry brush 4 more bases. Then they’ll be ready for their final airbrush color and can be glued to bases.
Odds and Ends

Lava
One distraction from the Dungeon Bowl Tiles was the Lava River. You can actually see it in its unpainted glory above, it’s the tile directly above the red endzone. I decided to test out recipe’s, strategy and get practice on some 3D printed items. I haven’t touched this in over a month. I also definitely won’t use any of the same paints I tested with. This wasn’t the best model to test with but it was better than 40mm bases.
Squigs
Taking what I learned from NOVA Open, I applied it to some Squigs. These will be used as Blood Bowl Trolls on a Snotling team. Note: I did none of the detail work. Just the base colors.
- Primed Stynlrez Grey
- Base coat GW Purple Contrast
- Zenithal White with FW Ink (Absolutely amazing. Total game changer)
- Masked with Silly Putty (provided by Dan Ozborne’s class!)
- Sprayed GW Contrast color
Rinse and repeat Steps 4 and 5 for each Squig. In hindsight. I wish I primed it white so you could see the purple more. Or maybe gone harder with the purple? I also wish I did their underbellies in their respective color more. I always intended to go back to their bellies in Purple. Masking and re-masking was a PAIN. It took me more time to mask than to airbrush.

NOVA Open
I’m not going to go into everything I did at NOVA but I took an airbrushing class! For anyone keeping track, my second airbrush class EVER! Pro Airbrushing – Efficiency, OSL & TMM with Dan Ozborne. It was a blast! We didn’t cover all of the topics, but I felt like I walked away with more than my money’s worth.
We focused more on fundamentals and that benefited me a lot. Since March, I had been slowly improving on my own but I can notice a jump after this class.
Look at this awesome shield! Some OSL would’ve been done in the middle but we ran out of time. The shadowing technique was hard and multi steps but the end product is worth it!

Trench Crusade
I am very very excited about this project. I am purposely not starting it until the Imperial Nobility team and Dungeon Bowl tiles are done. We’ll see if I stick to that plan.
My friend is getting into this game and was looking into making a 3×3 terrain board. I’ve been wanting to make a terrain board for years but had no plans to actually start so this was a great push.
Modularity is something that excites me so I wanted each trench to have the ability to connect with another piece. The plan right now is to make nine 12 inch tiles with either 3 or 4 inch trenches. Haven’t decided yet… I’ve drawn out how each trench would connect to another. I have minimum to no understanding of Trench Crusade rules. Odds are these tiles will have to change or be adjusted. No matter what, this will 100% get its own post so stay tuned!
